Our History

Dr. Fredrick A. Hunter built the Hunter Veterinary Clinic in 1953 after being discharged from the U. S. Army Veterinary Corp at the end of the Korean War. A 1945 graduate of the Washington State College Veterinary School, he met his future wife Patricia while in college and they returned to her hometown of Spokane to start a small animal practice.

He continued to practice until his retirement in 1996. During his career he helped found the Inland Empire Veterinary Medical Association which covered seven eastern Washington counties, and served a term as the president. In addition he was a frequent guest speaker to the WSU Vet School on the business side of veterinary practice.

We believe the picture to be taken on opening day of the practice with his wife (Pat) and
Son (Brian). Dr. Brian Hunter literally grew up in the clinic. Initially being here while mom worked as the receptionist, and later working summers as a kennel helper, assistant or filling in as a receptionist.
